In 1942, nutritionist Victor Lindlahr, who was a strong believer in the idea that food controls health, published You Are What You Eat: How to Win and Keep Health with Diet. Although he wasn’t the first to propose the notion, his work appears to be the vehicle that took the phrase “you are what you eat” into public awareness, and as scientists began to learn more about how food affects the body and mind, the idea took on even more merit.
